Problem

The innovator had concept sketches, some limited prototypes, but no usable CAD (Computer Aided Design) files and needed to be production-ready as soon as possible. They also had some design issues which still needed resolution before the product could be introduced.

Action

  1. I reviewed his concept, sketches, materials, and his design intent.
  2. I started a SolidWorks 3D CAD model containing all the client’s current design requirements and features.
  3. I solved the remaining tamper-proof design issue, along with other seal-related questions.
  4. Then worked with the prototype mold vendor to create and expedite the molded parts.

Result

We achieved that wonderful developer’s goal of perfect assembly on parts in their first revision. The client had his assembly ready to manufacture!

Project Notes

  1. This is a fairly typical development cycle.
  2. One benefit of projects like this is that I had the privilege of being asked by that client to work on his next project, and then the one after that.
